C.E.R.T. Program

In the midst of tornado season, the Criminal Justice students in collaboration with the Theater and Health Science students at Cumberland Academy High School participated in a tornado simulation today. Each Criminal Justice student will receive a FEMA Community Emergency Response Team certification. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is a training that teaches students about disaster preparedness for any of the hazards they may face in their communities, at home, and at school. Disasters range from tornados, fires, active shooters, and terrorist attacks. The training focuses on basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. The program offers a high level of training to students that professional first responders can rely on during disaster situations, which allows them to focus on more complex tasks. Special thanks to East Texas Fire Protection, First Call Search and Rescue, Home Depot Tyler, Harbor Freight Tyler, Christus Mother Frances, and UT Health EMS for donating supplies and Medics in order for the training to be successful.
