Allison McGee » Welcome!

Welcome!

Parents and students,

Welcome to the magical world of Theatre!  If you're a veteran, plan for another exciting year and gear up!  We're going to need your help!  If you're the parent of a new Cumberland Knight, I am so excited to have your student in my classroom, and I hope they'll learn a lot about their abilities to use their voice for their own benefit and the benefit of those around them -- and maybe get them in a little deeper with their imaginations.

Some things to know about me:
I have been on (and off) the East Texas stage for the past 28 years in one capacity or another whether performing, directing, stage-managing, work-shopping, critiquing, or teaching. Over two decades of experience have taught me a great deal about all aspects of performance and technical theatre, but none so great a lesson as this:

"Listen more, talk less."

I have high expectations for the young people in my classes.  Please read that last sentence again.  It is SO important, because from those expectations come a lot of creative and energetic student- generated ideas.  The kids take ownership of their productions and in-class projects, and I am simply there as a guiding reference and promoter of confidence in their limitless possibility.

Benefits of theatre experience include:
- confidence in public speaking
- strong analysis skills
- development in attention to detail
- leadership and teamwork abilities
- increased emotional awareness and intelligence
- an appreciation for diversity in forms of expression

...and so much more!

If you are thinking about continuing, picking up, or beginning your journey in Fine Arts at Cumberland Academy, I cannot recommend the theater program enough.   College prep, team-building, scholarship opportunities, on-stage and off-stage focus, lifelong friends, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences!  Come PLAY with us!  (See what I did there?)

We hope to see you in the seats or on the boards soon!  Go Knights!
